Some reviews for The Lost Guide to Life and Love …

"…Well written with believable, empathetic characters and a satisfying plot.
Griffiths is sharing a story with you rather than ramming home a few moral points about life and how to live it. This is lovely, relaxing chick lit, not preachy in any way and therefore perfect to curl up with for a rainy day on the sofa…."
(Sara Lawrence, Daily Mail)

" …A satisfying novel based in the Yorkshire Dales. A sub plot of London glamour, supermodels and smooth footballers adds intrigue and pace. An excellent bedtime read…."
(Clare Nasir. Now magazine)

"…From the moment I picked up 'The Lost Guide to Life and Love' I was drawn to the immensely likeable main character, Tilly Flint, and to this wonderful story depicting a few momentous months in her life. This is only the second book written by Sharon Griffiths, but with her easy and very readable style, I really hope that there will be many more. .."

"…A romantic and entertaining and heart warming read…"

September 2009

My second novel is published this month.

The Lost Guide to Life and Love brings together a wonderful mixture of professional footballers, models, photographers, farmers, shepherds and the ghosts of Victorian leadminers – all set in the stunning scenery of the North Pennines. Oh yes, and there’s food too.

Read more about it here.

Published by Avon on 7 September. £6.99

The Accidental Time Traveller is published in Germany. The title Zeitreisen für Anfänger means Time Travel for Beginners, which was an earlier title of the book in English until it was changed at the last minute.

The lovely Germans were incredibly enthusiastic about the book so I hope it does well for them. I love the cover – more roses – which is a great modern take on the 1950s. Brilliant.

I shall also practise my German …

Zeitreisen für Anfänger published by Scherz, Fisher Verlag.

The Accidental Time Traveller is published in Dutch, the first foreign publication. Translator Ineke van Bronswijk tells me that the title, Ouderwets Verliefd means ‘In love the old fashioned way’.

I keep dipping into the book and can pick out the meaning. At this rate I might learn some useful Dutch. On the other hand ‘Een warme, romantische komedie’ doesn’t take an awful lot of translating …

The cover has a real 1950s atmosphere and I love the way they picked up on the Rosie theme.

“….Griffiths captures the zeitgeist of the post-war decade, although younger readers might find it hard to believe that things were really like that. This is one for the beach, whatever your age…..”

The Western Mail

“…Reminiscent of Goodnight Sweetheart this gem is sure to make you laugh….”

Star magazine

“… A touching and believable love story that transcends time…. Fans will recognise Sharon’s easy fluid style, her deadpan comedy and her characteristic insistence on truth and authenticity…… Readers will really warm to Sharon’s heroine, a modern, independent , warm-hearted young woman with a sense of irony ….. an absorbing and action-packed story……This novel looks set for great things…..”

Wendy Robertson in The Northern Echo

“… an inventive romantic comedy that brings alive the life of half a century ago through the eyes of someone who has seen the future…. Drama and intrigue which marry the decades with great dexterity……The epilogue is the neatest end to a novel you’ll come across….. “

Pat Dean in the Darlington and Stockton Times

“……. inventive, escapist … This charming novel is a great summer read.”

June 2008

The Bookseller in its paperback preview for July - December has picked out The Accidental Time Traveller as One to Watch. They say

"A wonderfully warm romantic comedy, whose heroine is transported back to the 50s and finds she rather likes the traditional values of the time. One of the debuts most likely to be an instant hit that I’ve seen."

...Good news.

The Accidental Time Traveller has gone global. It has been bought by publishers in Spain, Germany, Romania and Holland...
